The worst feeling in the world is getting to a pageant, putting your gown on and not being as in love with your gown as you thought you would be. Why does this happen and what can you do about it?
I think the feeling of being underwhelmed stems from the "when your" syndrome. When your hair and make up are done, when you have a spray tan, when you have the lights on it etc etc. Too many times at Proms Pageants and Pretty Things we see our pageant girls come into shop just like they were shopping for a prom gown. Unfortunately, it just isn't the same thing. Then they find themselves trying to guess what their skin tone will be, what it will look like without suntan marks or if they have their heels on how it will walk across the stage. Too much of your score is riding on your gown, how you look in i,t and that you can present it well.
A professional pageant store will be able to help you imagine the stage lighting, have shoes to try on and jewelry to complement your gown but they can't do it all. When you are getting ready to go gown shopping we recommend following this check list to make sure you feel as great on pageant night as you do at the store.
Get a spray tan
Have your hair and make up done
Bring a hair tie with you
Bring a couple pairs of pageant shoes
This way you will be able to see how it stands, how it walks, if your skin tone will match the color of the dress or the netting and how your hair will look best. This will give your pageant consultant the best chance to find you the perfect gown and you the best chance to be as in love with your gown on pageant day as the day you bought it.
